RAIA Merit Award for Architecture 1997

1996 - 1997

The house retained the footprint of a modest 1930’s single storey cottage with garage beneath. A whole new living level was added, to open up a panoramic view over Middle Harbour and Balmoral Beach. A concrete and glass bridge provides an elevated entrance from the street, and the new internal stair winds through a light-filled void at the centre of the house.

The street side of the house has a robust concrete and render expression, with carefully calibrated punched openings, whilst the north and west have extensive glazing and balconies opening up to the view.
